Real Campaign Finance Reform
A.) United States Senators, United States Representatives
and Presidential candidates shall be "capped" in the amount of monies
that can be spent campaigning. These monies shall be a combined total
for both primary and general elections.
I.e.: U.S. House; $500,000.00
U.S. Senate; $5,000,000.00
Presidential; $500,000,000.00
Said monies shall be listed as to where and whom they come from with no contribution amount set on any individual.
Said monies spent on respective campaigns shall be accounted for.
Why is this part important?
Our
representatives and, indeed our presidents, have been bought and paid
for by special interests/lobbies, and the "uber wealthy" for far too
long now. Our elections are now determined according to who has the
most money. This way if a candidate gets their money from one person,
quite frankly who cares? But, at least then we will know where it
REALLY comes from. McCain/Feingold was without a doubt set up as a
monster bill in order to keep the everyday individual from running for
a federal office, and is deemed by many a constitutional lawyer to be
unconstitutional.
B.) Any sitting member of the U.S. House or U. S. Senate
whom decides to run for another federal office, such as President of
the United States or run for Governor of their home state MUST resign
their seat in order to do so.
Why is this part important?
It is simply inexcusable that for example; a sitting U.S. Senator or
Congressperson is allowed to hold on to their seat and their paychecks
while seeking another position and at times ignoring the
responsibilities of the job in Washington "We the People" hired them to
do. Attempt this little trick with any private company in our country
and see what will happen. On a personal opinion I also believe that
this shows a lack of courage and conviction, and often muddies the
waters when too many hats enter the ring. One either believes they are
the best person for the job or they don't.
C.) No campaigning shall occur prior to primary elections as follows for the following federal offices.
U.S. House of Representatives (6) months prior to the primary election.
U.S. Senate (1) year prior to the primary election.
U.S. President (18) months prior to the primary election.
Why is this part important?
It seems as though as soon as a politician takes the oath of office
they are already working harder on the next election than they are for
"We the People." We now have a current system which dictates that a
candidate whether new to politics or an incumbent must be on perpetual
campaign mode far too early and at obnoxious monetary cost. Is it no
wonder so many Americans are burned out on an election far before it
really begins.
D.) Prior to (2) weeks before a federal election shall any "attack style" ads be released by any campaign or special interest.
Why is this part important?
More often than not there is NO "complete truth" in advertising
with regard to "attack ads." This time table would give a candidate
enough time to respond to any alleged accusations.
